Frequently Asked Questions

What Can You Make With the Number Pyramid Generator?

Printable worksheets of six number pyramids with 3, 4 or 5 rows: the bottom row given, to practice addition, or numbers spread out, to practice addition and subtraction. Every worksheet also has its answer key, with every brick filled in.

How Do Number Pyramids Work?

In a number pyramid, each brick holds the sum of the two bricks it stands on. When the bottom row is given, you add each pair of neighbors to build the pyramid up to the top. When the given numbers are spread out, you also subtract: a brick minus one of the two bricks below it gives the other one. Number pyramids practice addition and subtraction facts, and show how numbers combine, step by step.

How Does the Number Pyramid Generator Work?
  1. Choose the settings. Pick the number of rows, 3, 4 or 5, and whether the bottom row is given, for addition only, or the numbers are spread out, for addition and subtraction.
  2. Make a new worksheet. Press New: a new worksheet appears at once, with the same settings. Each one comes from a random number, its seed, kept in the address of the page.
  3. Print it. Press Print to print the page on A4 paper, or choose “Save as PDF” in the print window to keep it.
  4. Get the answer key. Tick Show the solution: the same worksheet appears with its solution in orange, ready to print as the answer key.
  5. Share it. Copy the address of the page: it always gives the same worksheet back.

Every worksheet has six different number pyramids. The bottom numbers go from 1 to 9 with 3 rows, from 1 to 12 with 4 rows, and from 1 to 10 with 5 rows, where the top brick reaches 160 at most. When the numbers are spread out, a pyramid shows as many numbers as it has rows, and it can always be solved one brick at a time.
