Free Printable Kakuro Puzzles

Kakuro, sold in American puzzle magazines as Cross Sums, is a crossword filled with digits instead of letters. Each white square gets a digit from 1 to 9, each run of white squares totals the clue in the black square that starts it, and a run never uses the same digit twice.

Four grid sizes are offered, from a small 6x6 to a large 12x12, at three levels each, and the 6x6 and 8x8 grids are also printed four per sheet. A single solution awaits in every grid, found by reasoning alone.

About the kakuro puzzles

How kakuro works

Black squares hold the clues, split by a diagonal: the number above the line is the total of the white run to its right, and the number below it the total of the run underneath.

  • Digits: 1 to 9 only, one in each white square.
  • No repeats: a run never holds the same digit twice, so a clue of 4 over two squares means 1 and 3, never 2 and 2.

Kakuro grid sizes: from 6x6 to 12x12

  • 6x6: runs of five squares at most, a gentle first grid.
  • 8x8: runs reach six squares, with many more crossings.
  • 10x10: runs of up to seven squares across a full page.
  • 12x12: runs of up to eight squares, each one missing exactly one digit.

Kakuro difficulty levels

  • Easy: the possible digit sets of each clue, checked against the digits already in place, finish the grid.
  • Medium: adds placement, finding the one square of a run that can take a digit the run needs.
  • Hard: weighs complete fillings of a run and keeps in each square only the digits some filling allows.

Kakuro terms explained

  • Clue: the total printed in a black square.
  • Run: an unbroken line of white squares, across or down.
  • Combination: a set of different digits that reaches a clue, such as 1, 2 and 4 for 7 in three squares.
  • Crossing: a white square that belongs to one run across and one run down.

Printing the free kakuro sheets

  • Every size has its own page, and the 6x6 and 8x8 sizes add a page with four grids on each sheet.
  • Within a page, sheets are ordered from Easy to Hard.
  • Each sheet saves as a PDF, SVG or WebP file sized for A4, and a book PDF binds all the sheets of a page.
  • No answers are printed here; the Kakuro generator draws new grids of any size and level together with their solutions.
