6x6 Hidoku Puzzles

The 6x6 Hidoku stretches the path to 36 numbers. More cells mean more ways for the chain to turn, so the solver has to think a few steps ahead before writing a number between two clues that are far apart.

Easy grids start with 18 numbers, half of the grid, Medium grids with 15, and Hard grids with only those that keep the solution unique, often about a dozen. One grid fills each page.

Counting the Steps Between Clues

When two printed numbers are far apart, count how many steps lie between them and how many cells the path would need to get from one to the other. A gap of four numbers between cells that are four steps away leaves no room for detours.

Easy, Medium and Hard on a 6x6

With half of the grid printed, Easy puzzles mostly ask for short links. Medium grids remove a few more numbers. On Hard grids, the remaining clues are the ones the solution truly needs, and long stretches must be planned before they are written.

Mind the Corners

A corner cell touches only three others, and an edge cell five. Low and high numbers near the corners often have just one possible neighbor, which makes the corners a good place to look first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many numbers go into a 6x6 Hidoku?

Thirty-six: every number from 1 to 36 appears once, and each one touches the next.

Should I write in pencil?

A pencil helps on the medium and hard grids, where a promising stretch of the path sometimes has to be erased once a later clue shows it cannot work.
