Free Printable Star Battle Puzzles
Star Battle is a logic puzzle with no numbers: the grid is split into regions, and each row, each column and each region must end up with exactly one star, with no two stars side by side or corner to corner. Swap the stars for queens and you have Queens, the daily game on LinkedIn.
The grids come in four sizes, from 5x5 to 8x8, at three levels, printed singly or four per sheet. There is one solution per grid, reached by ruling out cells.

About the star battle puzzles
How star battle works
A star battle grid holds as many regions as rows, each outlined in thick lines. Place the stars so that every row, column and region has exactly one.
- No touching: stars never meet, not even at a corner, so each star clears the eight cells around it.
- Elimination: most of the solving is marking cells where no star can go; a star appears when a row, column or region has one cell left.
Star battle grid sizes: from 5x5 to 8x8
- 5x5: five regions and five stars, the size to learn the rules.
- 6x6: six regions with more room to bend.
- 7x7: seven regions, with longer chains of deductions.
- 8x8: eight regions of at least four cells, the largest grid.
Star battle difficulty levels
- Easy: each region, row or column read on its own, plus the cells that would leave a region no room.
- Medium: groups, such as two regions sharing the same two rows.
- Hard: at times, a star assumed in one cell and followed until a rule fails.
Star battle terms explained
- Region: an area of cells outlined in thick lines, which holds one star.
- Neighborhood: the eight cells around a star, which stay empty.
- Confinement: a region that fits in one row or column, which then gives its star to that row or column.
- Two Not Touch: the name of the two-star version of the puzzle, with two stars per row, column and region.
