Free Printable Hidoku Puzzles

Hidoku, also known as Hidato, is a number path puzzle. The grid has to hold every number from 1 up to its count of cells, and each number must touch the next one, across a side or a corner, so that together they form a single chain. A few numbers are printed to start with, always including the first and the last.

Grids come in four sizes, 5x5 to 8x8, and three levels, printed either alone on the page or by four. Every grid can be completed in exactly one way.

About the Hidoku puzzles

How Hidoku works

Write a number in every empty cell so that the grid holds each value from 1 to the total of its cells, none skipped and none repeated. Each step of the count moves to a touching cell.

  • Any direction: the next number may sit above, below, beside or diagonally next to the current one.
  • One chain: following the numbers in order traces a single path that visits every cell once.
  • Fixed ends: 1 and the highest number are always printed, so the path has a known start and finish.

Hidoku grid sizes

  • 5x5: a path of 25 numbers, a gentle first contact with the rules.
  • 6x6: 36 numbers, with longer stretches between the given ones.
  • 7x7: 49 numbers, where long gaps between clues start to call for planning.
  • 8x8: 64 numbers, the longest path of the series.

Hidoku difficulty levels

  • Easy: about half of the cells are already filled, so most gaps are short.
  • Medium: a little more than two cells in five are filled.
  • Hard: only the numbers a unique solution depends on remain, often about a third of the cells.

Printing the free Hidoku sheets

  • For each grid size, one page prints the puzzles large, alone on their sheets, and a second page fits them four to a sheet.
  • Levels rise along each page, from Easy at the top to Hard at the bottom.
  • Any sheet can be downloaded in PDF, SVG or WebP format for A4 printing, and a book PDF bundles the whole page.
