How to Solve a Number Pyramid
Every brick in a number pyramid is the sum of the two bricks it sits on. To find a missing brick above two known bricks, add them. To find a missing brick below, subtract: take the brick above and subtract its other known neighbor below. Work one brick at a time until the whole pyramid is complete.
How do the levels work?
The levels change the size of the pyramid, 3, 4, or 5 rows, and the bricks that are given. Addition levels give the whole bottom row, so children only add. Mixed levels give as many bricks as the pyramid has rows, scattered across it, so children need both addition and subtraction.
Tips for number pyramids
- Look for two bricks side by side: the brick above them is their sum.
- Look for a brick with one known brick below it: subtract to find the other.
- Fill the pyramid one brick at a time, always from two known bricks.
- Check the top brick by adding again.
