Free Printable Cut-Out Activities

Every sheet here is meant to be cut out. The nets fold into three-dimensional paper models: the five Platonic solids, prisms and antiprisms, pyramids and bipyramids, and Archimedean solids such as the truncated icosahedron, better known as the soccer ball. The pentomino puzzles print a shape to fill together with the pieces that fill it, at matching scale.

Each net comes with glue tabs and a small drawing of the finished solid, and each puzzle has an answer key.

About the cut-out activities

Paper models of solids

A net is the surface of a solid opened up and laid flat in one piece. Cut it out along the solid lines, crease the dashed lines, and glue each tab under the edge it meets until the model closes.

  • Platonic solids: five shapes, from the tetrahedron to the icosahedron, each made of a single kind of regular face.
  • Prisms and antiprisms: two equal polygons joined by a band of squares or rectangles, or by a zigzag band of triangles.
  • Pyramids and bipyramids: triangles rising to a point from a square or a pentagon, or two pyramids joined base to base.
  • Archimedean solids: several kinds of regular polygons, meeting in the same pattern at every corner.

Pentomino puzzles

  • A pentomino is a piece made of five squares, and there are twelve different ones, each named after a letter.
  • Each sheet shows a rectangle or a free shape at the top, with the matching pieces printed underneath for cutting.
  • The easiest sheets use three pieces and mark the sides of each piece that run along the border of the shape; the hardest use all twelve.

Tips for cutting and folding

  • Thick paper or card makes sturdier models and pieces.
  • Running a ruler and a dry ballpoint pen along each dashed line before folding gives clean creases.
  • The faces of the nets are blank, so they can be colored, numbered or decorated before assembly.

Printing the free cut-out sheets

  • Every sheet downloads for A4 paper in PDF, SVG or WebP.
  • Nets fill as much of the page as they can, one solid per sheet.
  • Each page also has a single PDF book with every one of its sheets, and the generators draw other solids and fresh puzzles.
