What is a Spinosaurus?
The Spinosaurus was one of the largest and most unusual meat-eating dinosaurs to ever live. It roamed Earth around 100 to 93 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. This dinosaur is famous for the tall sail on its back, made of long bones covered in skin, which may have helped it look bigger or regulate its body temperature. It had a crocodile-like snout with sharp teeth, perfect for catching fish, and scientists believe it spent much of its time near or even in the water.
The Spinosaurus could grow over 15 meters (about 50 feet) long and weigh up to 7 to 20 tons. Its body was likely covered in tough, scaly skin, and it had strong back legs with shorter front arms that ended in powerful claws. While we don't know exactly what sound it made, it might have growled or hissed to communicate. Fossils found in North Africa show that this dinosaur lived in river valleys and hunted both on land and in water, eating fish and possibly other small animals. Its unique features make it one of the most exciting dinosaurs ever discovered!
