What is an Allosaurus?
Allosaurus was a large, meat-eating dinosaur that lived about 155 to 150 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period. Its name means “different lizard,” and it was one of the top predators of its time. Allosaurus had a big skull with sharp teeth, strong legs for running, and short but powerful arms with three sharp claws. It could grow up to 12 meters (about 39 feet) long and weigh more than 2 tons.
Its skin was likely rough and scaly, and it might have made loud growls or roars to communicate or scare off rivals. Fossils found in North America and parts of Europe show that it lived in forests and plains where it hunted large plant-eating dinosaurs like Stegosaurus. With its fierce jaws, speed, and hunting skills, Allosaurus was truly one of the kings of the Jurassic world.
