What is a Parasaurolophus?
Parasaurolophus was a large herbivorous dinosaur that lived around 76 to 74 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period. It was part of a group known as hadrosaurs, or duck-billed dinosaurs, and is most famous for the long curved crest on the back of its head. This crest may have been used to make loud calls, help with breathing, or show off to other dinosaurs. Parasaurolophus could walk on two legs or all fours, depending on what it was doing.
It could grow up to 10 meters (about 33 feet) long and weighed around 2.5 tons. Its body was likely covered in tough, scaly skin, and it may have made low, trumpet-like sounds that echoed through the forests. Fossils have been found in North America, where it lived in warm, forested areas and fed on leaves, twigs, and soft plants. With its unique crest and peaceful nature, Parasaurolophus remains one of the most fascinating dinosaurs from the ancient world.
