What is a Lion?

Lions are large, powerful cats that live in grasslands and open woodlands across parts of Africa and a small area in India. Known as the kings of the jungle, lions are famous for their loud roars, which can be heard from miles away. Males are easily recognized by their thick, shaggy manes, while females are more sleek and agile.

Most lions live around 10 to 14 years in the wild and weigh between 265 to 420 pounds (120 to 190 kilograms), though some males can be even heavier. Their fur is short and coarse, perfect for staying cool in the hot sun. Lions live in groups called prides, which are usually made up of related females, their cubs, and a few males.

They mainly hunt animals like zebras, antelopes, and buffalo. While females do most of the hunting, the whole pride shares the meal. Lions are social, brave, and full of character, making them one of the most admired animals in the wild world!
