What is a Koala?
Koalas are marsupials that live in the forests of eastern Australia. Even though they’re often called koala bears, they are not bears at all. Koalas spend most of their time in eucalyptus trees, where they nap for up to 18 hours a day and munch on eucalyptus leaves, which are their favorite food.
Koalas usually live around 10 to 12 years in the wild and weigh between 9 and 33 pounds (4 to 15 kilograms). Their thick, woolly fur helps protect them from hot sun and rainy weather. Koalas have strong arms and sharp claws to help them climb and grip trees. They make grunting or snoring sounds to communicate with each other, especially during mating season.
These gentle animals are shy, peaceful, and perfect for calm moments of coloring and learning. Sadly, their homes are being affected by deforestation, so protecting forests is very important to keep koalas safe and happy.
