What is a King Cobra?
The king cobra is the longest venomous snake in the world, reaching up to 5.5 meters in length. Despite its name, it’s not a true cobra, but it still raises its hood and hisses loudly when it feels threatened. It lives in forests and jungles of India and Southeast Asia and often makes its home near water. King cobras can live around 20 years and weigh up to 6 kilograms. Their skin is smooth and dry, covered in shiny scales. Instead of growling or roaring, they hiss to warn other animals away. They feed mainly on other snakes, even venomous ones, and sometimes eat lizards or small mammals. Their powerful bite can be dangerous, but they usually avoid humans and prefer to slip quietly through the jungle.
