What is a Dodo?
The dodo was a large, flightless bird that lived only on the island of Mauritius. It had a round body, short legs, a curved beak, and fluffy tail feathers. Even though it couldn’t fly, the dodo could run quickly through the forests. It used its beak to eat fruit, seeds, and roots found on the ground. The dodo had no natural predators for many years, so it wasn’t afraid of people or other animals. Sadly, it became extinct in the 1600s after humans and new animals arrived on its island. Today, the dodo is a symbol of animals that disappeared because of human actions, and it helps remind us to protect nature and wildlife.
