What is a Capybara?
The capybara is the largest rodent in the world and one of the calmest animals in nature. It has a round face, a barrel-shaped body, and webbed feet that help it swim with ease. Capybaras have four toes on each front foot and three on each back foot, all tipped with short claws that are great for walking through mud and paddling in water. They can live up to 10 years and spend much of their time in or near rivers and ponds. Their fur feels short and bristly, perfect for staying dry after a dip. Capybaras usually make soft purring or barking sounds to talk with their family. These plant-loving creatures eat mostly grasses, fruits, and aquatic plants, often while relaxing in the sun or sharing space with other peaceful animals. Whether they’re floating in a stream or napping in a shady patch, capybaras are gentle friends of the wild.
