What is a Clownfish?
A clownfish is a small, colorful fish that lives in the warm, shallow waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It's best known for its bright orange body with white stripes and its close friendship with sea anemones. These underwater homes have stinging tentacles, but clownfish have a special mucus on their skin that keeps them safe. They love to dart in and out of their sea anemone homes to stay hidden from predators. Clownfish communicate by making popping and clicking sounds, and they usually stay in small groups. They eat tiny animals like plankton, as well as algae and leftovers from their sea anemone buddies. Most clownfish are only about 10 centimeters long and can live up to 6 to 10 years. They don’t have scales like other fish, but their smooth skin and fins help them glide gently through coral reefs.
