Three-Digit Sums
From the tenth row on, the middle numbers pass 100. A blank there means adding two numbers of two or three digits, good practice for column or mental addition at the third-grade level.
An Unfinished Pattern
The odd cells of twelve rows repeat the complete eight-row pattern and begin the next, larger one, which only sixteen rows finish. Asking what the next rows would add is a natural way to lead children toward the sixteen-row sheets.
Nine Blanks per Sheet
Each sheet hides nine numbers, at most two on a row, and never two blanks touching from above or below, so every one can be found from printed numbers.
